THE COST OF EXPRESSION IS INCALCULABLE

i hear
a lot
about
people
saying
to
artists

is your art free ?

when dude think about it
its not even free to DO

~

stones leak
blood tears
mix with
cold sweats
warm salt

they run together
like rust in rain
make a pattern
like the mekong delta

on
my
fourteen acres
of
tsunami debris

rolled up and forced
into
faulty thin skin -

       pretends to be
        Lizard  Tough

     in a pigs ear !

and
a
never-white-again
supermarket vest

I JUST DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF

flat drunk on north london rental lino thats bubbled and uneven and beer sticky

chicken shop and bottle shop are four feet away from the front door down the adverse camber of the stairs

we watch an empty jameson bottle roll down the incline of the double-aspect living rooms mistake

and the white stripes bacharach & david cover
of i just dont know what to do with myself is lodged in my frontal lobe

its my own hysterical itch dulled by the eternal st pancras construction drills

~

suddenly
               inspired
                        i get on myspace
   on music forums

            on fan pages

         on the detroit personals

strongly urging the white stripes to next cover

      the cheers theme song

     to please
        please
      cover
  the cheers theme song

because i can already hear it
       like you already made it

its my own hysterical itch dulled by the hangover trains and signing on

~

15 or whatever years later still they havent but still i can still hear it still

have to go to third man myself

will take cliff

he can tell me about his nixon potato and i can explain my hysterical itch to him

on the way to nashville

MATTE FINISH

can i really

pluck
my
future
from
a
sky
identical to itself ?

i both thrive and rot
in ancestors earthy shadow

maybe
its
not
my
dreams
i dream at night

and the possibilities
that begin there . . .

need a matte finish
no bling necessary

take the fake sparkle
from the lying stars

they promise nothing and everything

daft distances away

from
earths
blue
lidless lid

BLAMELESS MORNING

the morning
wakes indifferent

NOTHING is its fault

passive aggressive masterclass
amps the horror

to impress
its
gone dark twin

it just IS
morning is

there like an uncut lawn

you

THE BODY LANGUAGE OF THE OTHER DRUMMERS

they lean forward
in that way they have

and you have to lean in
to hear their words

and they always look away
in that way they have

those people do
who arent entirely here

INSOMNIAS IGNORED WHITE FLAG

i chase sleep

wait to feel the pull
from the other side

i wave a white flag of surrender

i am never first in the queue

let me in
let me in
let me in

i am as unarmed as i get
i am going stale here

like bread out for birds

~

on the rabbit hole lintel
unswallowed
i pretend to sleep

who will know ?

thats who
