THE ANYWAY FILES

i would be climbing the damn walls

in these helpdesk chatbot days
of recreational consumption
& blue-grey smiling vans

if i could climb anything at all

~

anyways
these poems here
are proof of life
& the sacred twofer
of discipline & attempt

~

&
when all the children of the revolution
ask me what i did while it all fell apart

i can say

well kids
i wrote it down
or kinda tried to

knee deep in gadgets
& plastic & pills

15 YEARS OF BLOGGING POEMS

i know
my reports
are hit & miss
like the coat on coat off
         coat on coat off
         coat on coat off
         english weather roulette

but
this
is
a self employed position
&
i make my own hours
&
the targets are fluid
&
the quality control watchdog
is stretched out thinking
nothing & nonsense
across the daytime bed

THE ROAD TO DAMASCUS IS PAVED WITH UNFINISHED POEMS

i am the unproud owner
of 128 unfinished poems
i will get to them
i will

i will
find their form
flexing in the ferberite
& set them almost almost free

its just the dense sickness

is so profound these days

i feel made of
ninety nine percent
heavy water

~

& the power is out
& the toll booths shut
down on damascus avenue
& its weird / things are weird
in ways its hard to say
like today
take next doors gardener
with his jeans & his tools
i never seen a more normal normal man

~

i am the proud owner
of 127 unfinished poems
i will get to them
i will

JUST SO MUCH PAPER

my
cardboard folder of poems
was
suddenly just so much paper

& i took my hand
to the train station home

in the tunnel vision
of october dusk

the
city laughing
in
alfresco clots

EASY AS EASY PIE

late night wisdom
flings sundown ideas
underarm & gentle & legion

& my poems spiral there
on the night air
into clever & relevant collections
organised by weather & emotion
& their estimated proximity
to moving bodies of water

& the novels there
feel only
bare finger taps away
all seemingly
so simple
as the easiest easy pie

xanax does that
its a cosy place to dream
holding hands
the night sounds coming in
easy
as easy pie

THRICE POPS

SOMETHING GOING IN SOMETHING COMING OUT

i
read
poetry
on the toilet

something going in
something coming out

it
makes
a
Great Sense to me

~

all those pages
i marked with
a small fold in the corner

well i picture
someone looking thru them
for
something
to
read
at
my
funeral

Primo's Monday
or maybe
his Give Us
that
i read this morning
in
there

something going in
something going out

( no wait
  read his
Song Of Those Who Died In Vain )

and . . .
flush

~

and im wondering who that would be
looking for something
to read
for me ?

when i think

Screw You

im not going to die
theres too much Madness
i dont want to miss

these
pages
are
marked
for ME to read
at YOUR funeral

if i get up the guts
on your Big Day

~

or
i
will
read
them
at your graveside

i could do that
at least

or at your cardboard urn
when your ashes
swirl like starlings
into
the
great wherever

with
hollywood
golden leaves
all around
and
thin
mocking
english
rain
getting under
my collar

~

or maybe
i will
read them
at home
for you

do i really need to go out ?

would my proximity
to your cadaver
really matter ?

maybe
itll
help you
rest in peace

tho
i
dont
know
how anybody can

FIVE OR TEN POPS

1.

this guy sat outside costa

smokes a roll up
fat as his thumb

stirs his coffee
for a full five minutes

stares hard into space

ignores totally
the woman sat with him

and i dont like to judge

but i bet
hes due in court

2a.

i wonder about dying

and i wonder about not

and i wonder
bout all the things
i will never know

i hope i wont die behind on my box sets
or
croak
halfway thru
a
balls-out novel
of
addiction and murder

2b.

and in 100yrs
will computers
be thinking liquid

and hide from us
in the sea ?

3a.

i wake
and smell the day

it smells like shit
that chemical shit

farmers . . .

i start again

i see a robin
in the rosemary patch

i see a dragon fly
on the rose bush pole

and you see the problem is
i dont know what to do
with
that

3b.

so i write it down

file it
for
posterity
whatever that is

and i thank lordfuck in heaven
for
gardens

by sitting
my fleshbag of gas in one
and
staring out my head

4.

and outside
deaths opinion

i wonder dont all weep
in the weakness
of every dawn

5a.

i can write poems

mechanically
apparently

and time was
they were an
olympic event

but please dont ask me
to understand the gas bills

seemingly
random

list
of

give
and
take

5b.

utility bills
are like
predictive text

i explain to the cat before breakfast

5c.

imagine if what we paid for a shirt
was
based
on
someones assumption
of
how
many
shirts
we would buy that year ?

i ask the cat after breakfast

5d.

my shirt might even be free !

and
well

the cat
is snoring now

in wise response

BEAT THEM UP GUTLESS

i
scribble all these words
on
the backs of scrips
and
coffee shop receipts
and
theyre not poems
but
i want them to be

so
i beat them and i bully them
i bash them and i shove them around
and
i
get
something soul-less
something mechanical
something like a to-do list
for
anxious robots
on
a
philosophy jag

im blaming the scribble words
when
its
me
whos gutless in the sandpit
playing god with my own turds

i start again
with
the force of heart and faith in the hub
and
i wash my mind in coffee
and
freezing iced water
and
instead of lunch
i
stand naked outside
on
natures green patio
waiting
for
heavy industrial rain

SUPERTIRED !

strange how exhausted a man can be
with
mind-fog a north wall of dense smudged graffiti
and
still

all at once

can
plan evenings of seaside-dinner and cafe-words
he might miss
and
still
can
suddenly plot crime novels bent on the work toilet
he may never write
and
still
can
work his heavy limbs for folding money
thru the murky muddy troughs of awful 10 AM
and
still
can
jot and scribble nascent poems quickly down
between
dark bitter coffees and spacious abyss moments
that
reduce All Things from rocky mass to mere paper concept
with
still
the
big world-drama banging like jungle telegraph
out the radio headlines and dim-opinion gossip mouths
that
fill
full
every
long
slow
blink
of tiny interrupted peace

THE GREY MOMENTS

all the
half waking
and slow dozing
is
dense
with
poems reading and movies talking
i
hear
distant yells
and
see
white lightning

and when i'm out of this in-between thing
i
cant
hold on to their hands
or
their
meaning

is it insight i seen
or
just
realities chipped sheen
of
back alley
busted bottles
and
meaningless fighting by dream stuffed bins ?

STREETS AS POEMS

the hot summer of '06
was
full with
warm beer
cheap scotch
a
funeral
and
grief

but
i saw the streets as poems
columns of
simple
true
words
everywhere
i
looked

THE DUMPS AND THE GLORY

anyway
i hope i'm not boring you?
with
my
under-tales scribbled with a clean pen and nano claw
i
am
only
filing
reports
of
one
day
relevance - a baby opus raid
to
empty
stressed lobes of their tickles
and
to
show and tell of the dumps and glory
before
the
timed
exit
