DREAMING WITH STEPHEN & JOHN

they flee from the city
with feet lit crimson
& headlights in their hands

& happy clouds will love you
& the storm clouds match
your gloom

& the stark scaffold of nude timbers
where words dwell with their ink

welcome you in quiet moderation

then spurned
with no why
they chase you
thru the mist
to the beach at the end of the world
& you lunge
at a loss
into the weak grey surf

& you land home
to the windows & the colour
& what
you say
in the
stephen king & john carpenter
was that ?

ANCIENT OAKUM

its
all
like
dried up glue

stringy & ugly
& something to pick at

ancient oakum come loose
& on the way
to the kitchenette bin
in the peach colour prefab

then landfill
or a south pacific beach

where the turtles
cosplay westerners

but never for long

AS A LEARNING RESOURCE

how he spoke
was like the words
were behind him

like a motorway truck
laying a line
of traffic cones

this was prose
in the print queue
& no torpedo polemic

& it dovetailed
into the subject -
an old war diary

its urgency logged long ago
on the boats & beachheads
& in the elephant grass

& scanned now
for download
as a learning resource

BINMEN MY BINMEN

steel shrieks in the sub dawn

hi vis trash fairies
purge the plastic proof
of our consumer guilt

consumer guilt paused
like smoke in a photo

of
a
parisian balcony night

~

sometimes i wave to them
if i am up & backlit
in the front window

but i am too old for that
& it dilutes the magic

like a trumpet
in the trees

~

i feel
a tangible absence / a lightness
tugging the empty bins back in

consumer guilt . . . gone ?

no - taken

to foreign beaches
for brassic foraging

a plastic bird in the hand
worth two in the toxic bush

AUTUMN ON THE NEXT PAGE 1

i want it
always spring

warm & new
winter
unglued

i want my
flip flops
flip flapping
in
a
light fun tumble
of
inconsequential rain

with autumn on the next page

&

mindfulness
that cannot
turn blue

UNTIL THE HOURGLASS IS FLIPPED AGAIN

and
all
the
bad things
i taught myself

and
all
the
flat things
i said

are sand now
gone thru
the glasses neck

for the tide
to collect as is

~

( or leave behind

  to remind

  and season

on this strange winter beach )
