CURL OF A SHRIMP

in the corner
of the sofa
in the corner
of the room

the cat sleeps
silent & shaped
in the curl
of a shrimp

& the night air
thru open windows
tussles zephyrs in

his slumbering thatch

NO BELL TO EVER RING

to be ill
all the time
an everyday sicknote

well its like
being sent to the corner
to stare at the wall

no chair allowed
the world alive
behind you

ROUGH & FUMBLE TETRA PAK TEAR

milkfloats
homey rattle
gone now

that dawn
clink & dink
now a silent
plastic twist
in the light
of a fridge

~

& on frosty school mornings
theyd emerge
out the fog
like a friend

by the tree there
on the corner
that later
was almost home

ARENT WE ALL

waiting for my time
on a street corner
loose change in my lining

waiting waiting waiting
for something to happen

well
my time might
well has been & gone

when i was waiting
on a street corner
field dirt in my boots

waiting waiting waiting
for something to happen

well my time might be right now
this coffee & kitchen chair
this sand in my hands

& i notice
too late ?
too late !

nah / whatever

tomorrow never looked so fine
as with my eyes tight shut today

PRIVILEGE OF QUIET

in
a
quiet
corner
of
the
earth
where everyone has a hatchback
to
fetch their shopping in ?

stay there
have a think

and
count the blessings
you
called
boredom

THAT CORNER

theres a fucktown corner
by the war memorial
where the cub scouts march on special sundays
and
a
pub with the ivy up the front
that looks
all
charming
but
is
full
of plasma widescreens
and
oven chips

there
used to be a knocking shop on that corner
above
the face painting place
that
also sells fireworks
when theyre in season
and
it
says sports physio
on the window now

a lorry driver at work
told me
he'd won some money on the lotto
and
spent
it
all
up
there
and
in
strip clubs Romford way

i cant go past it now
without looking up and wondering
about
that
normal
underworld

and the lorry drivers huge blokey grin
