PIECES

& we hold
the piece of them
we are left with

like a rushed bout of swapsies
in the hall before the lesson bell

& i hear their healthy guffaw
That  Made  Time  Do  One
when i see stuff & things

they would have loved
to be alive
to laugh at

THE SHITTING FORECAST

 i eat shit
 & watch shit

 i bite my anger down

 i do shit
 & sleep shit

 my dentist warns me off

 ~

 i compact my irritation
 to diamond density
 hoping for a facet glow

& i watch the shit show

smiling & laughing - maximum effort

 in the
 hollowed out
 smoke & mirrors
 fuckhub face
 of it all

MOVIE POPS & A BOOK POP

DEATH AND THE PENGUIN

penguin at the graveside
hired
tired
paid
to wake them
on their way

dont ask
youre working youre alive
dont ask
youre writing youll survive

penguin in the graveyard
his work is not hard
fish fed and under stars

dont ask
youre working youll thrive
if you dont know
wont have to hide

penguin plays his part
stood still in the rain
falls ill
in pain
needs a transplant
mourners acquire a childs heart

but you looked in the bottom drawer
found out
safe no more
and now must wangle
a plane
to antartica

MONDAY POPPADOMS

ELECTIONS AS A QUIZ
WAR AS A HEIST

time was i used to laugh
at
bush jr
at his cia daddy
at
that
whole skullfaced crowd
stinking it up
and
the
drinks
came
fast
back then
tripping
on
their own cool heels
and
i
sat
bug eyed mad and drunk
hooked into rolling news

i can hardly laugh now
only manage some kind of bark
like
my
throats
dried
up
cos its dawn again
and i see
a firing squad
lining up
in the rags of mist

maybe
its
cos
of
age exhaustion and awful awareness

or
the snowflake compassion
thats expanding
in my soft cabbage mind

and i wonder now
now i'm shy of headlines
if
rolling
booze
is
the
only
sane
reaction
when your leaders are certifiable
or
worse

seem to work
for the
russians

COFFEE POP

he said
he would come for a coffee at noon

so he came for a coffee
at half past noon

and
we
sat
under
one
single
50 mile
contrail
like a chalk line
on
a
blackboard
we
had
sat in front of
struggling to learn french

50 thousand
years
ago

BEACH PAST POP

sat out in the low spring sun
in its low wattage
and residual chill

am
reminded
of being a kid
on englands windy beaches
forcing fun
out the rockpools
and sand

searching for enid blyton caves

and waiting on the lunch rolls
the ice cream run
the seaside lights at night
and
a
pub
garden
with its mysterious free smell
of
beer

NIGHT POP

the
waking small hours
are
emptied out

colourless

i sneak along my own hallway

the hanging coats
are evacuated shells

and
i
fill
the
night
with
cigarette smoke and cold water

asking
rhetorical
questions

that
daylight couldnt write

LAUGH OUR DEATH AWAY

the moon is a blur
a smudge
moody streetlight

a
stain
in the frozen fog dawn
and
complex-simple
like jazz

i'm alive
i'm alive

out
in
nature

but

heading behind mans walls
where
we
babble in the day dungeon
and
laugh
our
death away

IT TURNS OUT IT WAS

theres
a
pause
before
she
laughs
you could reverse a bus thru
and
i
wonder
in this small eternity
if
the werd-fart what my dim mind barked
was
funny
at
all
