MORNING REPORT 103

furious
at
whateverthefuck
on
a
beautiful morning

i swallow it / cough it / spit it

& count sets of five
in math zen
on my fingers

~

& i force-accept
the yellow-white sun

its indifferent majesty
& unheard scream

its warming jazz
& coincident hug

up there
in the Great Black Hole

WITH THE AUTHORITY OF AN INDUSTRY ANALYST

hmv sells nostalgia now
lps there i ignored
the first time around

old metalheads
list records in surprise
bruce dickinson ! the kinks !

~

i hear a man
loud & off somehow
tell his ladyfriend
quiet but off somehow
about how he owned a record player

just like this one

& when he says

im glad vinyl is making a comeback

with the authority
of an industry analyst
she answers

who is vinyl ?

~

i take a punt
on a jazz percussionist
with a reduced sticker

its a name i can almost place

& leave
thru the merch blockade
of
tshirts & totes & tat

MAD JAZZ RESOLVED - ANIMAL !

count the locum stars
barefoot in the onion grass
&
disappear invisible - animal !

pissing free & marking
the holly hedge point blank
inside
the gardens
monochrome dark

where the maintenance line
is only made manifest
if you willingly wield
the hand-me-down GPO rust shovel
with intent & lowborn design

& back indoors
its all science wonder

mad jazz resolved
in screaming blue light

NO SUCH THING AS A BROKEN TAP

never list the faulty devices
do not name the broken things

because
there is no such thing
as a broken tap

they only are
as they will be
& maybe were

in a plastic zen sort of way

~

plumbing is mad jazz

because
theres no such thing
as a broken tap

when
the
oak is acorn & stump

is tinder & coal & home

so never list the faulty devices
& do not name the broken things

MUSIC POP

& the jazz rock fusionators
touching up the funk

& the mentholated hiphop metalers
pillaging the cinema

hose me down
at half time

& fill me up again

SKULLBONE STRAIGHTJACKET

SKULLBONE

we go mad
in our own tree
mad in our own
skullbone straightjacket

mostly invisibly
of course

googling trepanation
on the sly

ARGUING TREE

and arguing
with the voices
and the faces
in the bark
and the knots
we become exasperated
looted and lost

still we jump down
in time for tea
and roll out
our useless recycling
on a thursday night

only now
maybe we have kept
an old bird nest
maybe on our head
maybe as a hat
as a reminder
and protection

WHAT WAS SAID

noeliberalism

and disaster capitalism

the tree said

are trapped gas . . .

best play jazz to the wind
to the leaves
to the wood and water

everything
is
upside
down
out there

and kept that way
by amazon opec and viacom

dont look
but pray for the youth

the tree said

that they
might be
builders

  it
came after
gone dames
played the
wrong games
and
the
cold
rain that fell
fell in a black mood
as
if
it
knew it would be ice by morning

  and
i listened to my jazz
in
mono
