ICE COOL & HOME FREE

the anxiety
commensurate
in the stealing
of benzodiazepines
was easily alleviated
by eating one or two

altho the subsequent chill
did make me lackadaisical
i kept a caffeinated eye on it

& gliding lightfoot
across the hospitals
egg speckled lino
i managed to reconnected some
with the current work day

& i was ice cool about it
& later home free

UNDER THE BENZO TREE

a calm
that glows
soft morning glee

nerve jags
ice nights
&
thoughts too free

lie as fruit
wind fallen
under the benzo tree

HOPE ON ICE

the sadness

is under the ice

i keep the hope on

as i play

wait & see

in the mad dancing shadow

of the proverbial pan

LONDON MEMORIES (AN APRON OF FREEMASONS)

pm isnt it
leicester square

a raggedy glamorous maybe rentboy
links my arm talking about company
his eyes alight with a morning hit

i rescue my arm dont i
telling myself
he thinks i am a rock star

its the sunglasses isnt it
people always look
at sunglasses without the sun

leicester square
movie remake why hollywood why
still we are curious

red guide ropes
i am trapped
in red guide ropes
drunk
laughing
a fool arent i

i am only looking for dark
and a story to escape into
inside we could be anywhere

movie is full of mojitos
bad dialogue
flash cars
and after i am needing another drink bad
my mind dried
like a forgotten potted plant

so then wooden pubs isnt it
old as the river
ornate ceilings like art
and i am timeless
and i am strong
and i am accelerated
and i am refueled
and i speak of my love of wooden pubs

( wood
  its good
  it feels
  like it should )

so shoot pool isnt it
smoke hangs like mountain cloud
no air in here
no air moving anyway
everything is on the corner of stagnation
sweat in circles under my arms
short sleeve bad check crinkle shirt
so i hold scotch ice to my forehead dont i

so then we drink our way east
pictures on paper money
as made up as anything

see bob fossil order a beer
no no no not him
who is it who is that
its lucien sanchez
and hes got an ale

see freemasons leave their hq
silent fat suited secret phalanx
leak out their huge stone monster
one city block long
they come in this bar dont they
single file like a field trip
and they go up the backstairs
no eyes on anyone

then we are over the road arent we
laughing at their ornate aprons
arcane books
solid mystery
in their exclusive freemason shop window

and all the pubs
are all weirdly empty
just us isnt it
and disinterested barmen
nuts for dinner
and all the streets
are all weirdly empty
just street cleaning carts
driven buzzing electric
by hi-vis immigrants
city blending and city mundane
its some side passage
secret london isnt it
painted windows and wedged open doors
record shops that never open

i leave my fingerprints
on all the brass poles
i leave my dna
in all the cold back room pissers

and i wonder if we have found heaven

or at least a place outside politics

a drinking bubble isnt it
long may it last
amen

THREE POP POPS

SPRONION POP

at the stove
building an omelet

black pepper & spring onion

when
rain fell outside

it smelt amazing

of
fresh earth & scrubbed sky

it put a zing in the afternoon

and
made
me
need
to
piss
something awful

WINDOW POP

i look up

our blue ceiling
is a window
no glass in the frame

theres
ice sculptures up there
no one has seen

older
than
the
earth

CAPTAIN POP

the garden is a boat
an ark
on soil sea

i will do for captain

and
when a bee comes

  i
  say  thank
       fuck !

he
works
and
spreads
an
antidote to extinction dread

SHOTGUN BLAST NEXT TO MY EAR (A P.I. PULP POP)

  it
came after
gone dames
played the
wrong games
and
the
cold
rain that fell
fell in a black mood
as
if
it
knew it would be ice by morning

  and
i listened to my jazz
in
mono

NEXT DOOR

knocking and drilling
for a year
next
door
pauses
for a row

wild raised voices
a
bellow - GEEEET OOOOUT!

i can feel the hot heads tight panic
the
destabilised fire
the
icy eyes - like i'm there/like its me

front door slams/shakes the masonry
and
of course i look out the window

the
daughter
drives her hatchback angry
free hand
hiding
her
eyes - i feel her desperation in one glimpse
and
it
rings
primal
bells

its
apocalypse for a quiet man

even
when
its
next
door

LOADED

i been thinking

i need to have a word

stop by the office

got a minute

ask you something seriously

all
stab
my
heart and guts
with
ice knives of fire

like

the yell-ring of the telephone . . .

CHEMICAL BROS WERENT DOING THE MAIN STAGE THAT YEAR

i'd go to see
the
curled ecstasy accidents outside the thump-crunch dance tent
arms wrapped round their own legs
fetal
on
their
sides
eyes child-scared wide
tortoises tipped and spiked
on the worn grassless ground around the giant tent ropes

i'd look into
the
dante-neon mash of banded limbs and glo-hoops
they were carried free from
see
their
friends
in there that had abandoned them
scientifically absorbed into a wild high rush
of
a
greater mass and hot primal mob

i'd have sunglasses on in cool summer night
make the shining darkness
subdued
duller
light my dominican cigar and unscrew the whisky again
and
crackle thru the carpet of empty evian
weave into the bass heart of the pulsing caterpillar
thunder of torsos sweating
shirtless
sports-bra'd

i was stoned and stone and cold
lost black ice in a tech-crib of new born innocent fire
i'd stand still as stone drunk drinking and alone
anomalous
a cloud of wet smoke heavy with booze disease
a
tumour
in
their
rush of love

but
i like
the
Chemical Brothers
too
