he says

i am on benefits
i say

& very mostly at home

but out at a bbq with twunts today
for some awful reason

well . . . not . . .
you know what i mean tho
he says unsure

i dont fit the mold you see

i have an illness
i say
& a working wife

this bbq is bloated
with tabloid fed
carb tards

you should be ashamed
of your effing self !
he says

feeling on surer grounds
for some reason now

well the thing is you see
i say stepping up
at a bbq we are leaving

i AM ashamed sometimes
but i dont believe
i should have to be
THATS my problem

i leave
too ill
to engage
further

HOUSE OVER THE SIDE FENCE

house over the side fence
i know they have
a
big
mercedes
but their garden chatter is coarse as dockers
and
always about fags

and i know they dug up their patio
but
i've
yet
to hear them replace it
and their lawn is tiny
and
takes
more moaning than mowing to cut

they bbq cheaply
i only ever hear them say burger

it sounds awful over there
but
i
can't
bring myself to tip toe up
and
look

FESTIVAL MUSK

sandalwood sticks and plywood bonfires
smoking
in
the
solid dark of country
and
the rip of tent zips talking

the
damp air in nettle ditches
old beer
damp shoes
and
the
wafting funk of weed and wax flares

it all comes rushing back to me
the Radiohead tragedy . . .

rushing back
on bbq winds of suburbia
where
bmw boys bellow about baps and burnt burgers and bites
on
white
legs
on plastic moulded chairs
behind slats of council fences

and
i
remember
counting survivors
in pale yellow mornings
cheap bacon marked up in the buses
when
the
bass
came thru the ground again
