THE ACTUAL DOING OF IT

 up & slow & late & hungover
    & we cook sausages
on the old split level oven
calling out as we turned them

show us your little pink arses

& we eat them with eggs
  & toast & coffee & cigarettes
& he gets his stuff together
 for going back to town
      & i boot my laptop
& get my stuff together -
 rolling a row of cigarettes
& placing them with a plastic lighter
next to my tin russian ashtray
in the spaces on the spare room desk
          & he says

 you really are a writer

   with respect & maybe awe
    in his voice & pause
 & i cherish that moment
     for the acknowledgement of

 The Actual Doing Of It

  over & above any results
 or deals or hysterical lauding

SHRIEK ON

shriek on
shrill songbirds

dont let
our swearing
stop you

we are hungover
from
questions

~

& the fulltime bell
will surely peal soon

on another mornings
cold taxi minds

WAITING THE MORNING OUT

when i knocked at his door
on school-out mornings

his mum always answered
hungover & put out

smoking a superking
in her dressing gown

jeans on the ironing board
vodka soda on the side

& she would shout for him
up the stairs like for a dog

& we would go out on bikes
to wait the morning out

on a building site
pissing in the crevices

or down some alley
rolling with the nothing

cos really
i dont think we got on at all

we were just at the same school
with compatible video games

in 1984
or thereabouts

CONSUMERISM POP

an underpaid boy
in cheap polyester
builds
an overpriced sandwich
wrapped in shiny paper
and
hungover girl
at the cash register
says
its cheaper
if you add water
in
plastic bottle
that will last forever
and
you cant finish the sandwich
and chuck it in the litter
but
despite distant famine
from disrupted weather
you
feel for little while
small slice happier
