DREAMSTATE WESTERN

moon-out flatlined
after every days
headlong hesitation
&
sun-up repumped
after every nights
dreamstate western

~

i knew where north was
& told them all so

keep your shadows to the right
i said
if its after lunch

look to your horses

their
patience
shall
preserve us

CHILDHOOD MEMORY POP

i was allowed
down
the long thin garden path
of
row
house
58

& across the lane there
by myself

hand-me-downs
&
sweaty palms

to visit the horses
nodding & marvellous
fenced in gas board land

skeleton silo
metal bones
kind of unbelievable to me

~

one time
i
saw
a
grasshopper or cricket

on a tree stump there
up in the dirt verge

& i went back
with
news
to
tell

pork roast on the stove

DIAGRAM OF A STREET 2/2

new flats
have off road parking

if you drive
a matchbox

~

the creche is closed

its night

i cant picture it
any other way

~

social clubs
beer garden
attempts privacy
with
cable-tied
homebase bamboo

~

glut of smoke
clot of perfume

in a cloud
round their
exit cab

~

heart attacks
sign in

for ale
babycham

meat in the raffle

~

faceless rear
of
high street shops
is
looming
barracks
of drek

~

behind it all
the wasted scrub
is horseless now

and the train line there

goes to the city
or the sea

THE TWITCHING CALL OF THE WASTING

happiness
is a toasted cheese sandwich

and us all stretching out
before noon
on the cat nap bedspread

in the tumbling hills
of the hinterland sticks

time served
in
yesteryears
high pressure
fandango

when the dawn screamed like horses
after a team gin all nighter

and there was
no rest
no rest
no rest

in the twitching call
of
the
wasting
