& the emptiness of right now

is punched out 

on the quiet carpet

of a weekday morning fume

i walked across
the college field
my hopes inside a matchbox

army rucksack / army boots
itchy feet & hot to trot
far from california

diffused sun

pollution sparkled
like surf on a movie beach

i am off to raise my cup again
to the feathers in the wind
far from california

misty longing
& elegy
plays down the walkmans wire

& took me
with drums & things
off to california

POOR EGGSHELLS

   from our car
accidentally clusterfucked 

in the suv school run

   i see the

fragile uniformed minds

clot up at the learning gates

more bricks for the wall

crossing the abacus plane

   poor eggshells

would that our plastic factories

had made you soft feathers instead
