  gave it to me

years later

grandpas house

doodling cats and us
with fine point

architects pens
  
the doors open
  gas fire on 
  all its bars

ape
if he knew

daily doses - pills / love / light

    (scarlet and gas-fire orange)

  that
  keeps

  quiet 
out on this
alien ledge
  where
  artists
  wait in rags

    (stripes and checks and black-white)

  in front of the mirror with rusty corners
  in
  a
library washroom

cars at 7 pm
mumble and rumble-shout

  tight
  syllables
over the train track crossing

  office buildings
  glass and steel layer cakes
shine
all night
for
the 
ghosts of the laid-off

  fart out the sweat-stench of the working day
  in
  hot
  steam
